What is Wellness and Senior Screening?
Did you know that dogs and cats age much faster than humans? That means that your pet’s annual exam is roughly equivalent to us seeing our own doctor every 5 to 7 years!
Just like human doctors run periodic blood, urine and monitoring tests on us, the same is recommended for our pets. Our goal is to identify changes early, before our friends become sick.
Please call our Vet Clinics phone number 905 271-8508 for an appointment.
Wellness screens are blood tests designed for dogs and cats under seven years of age. Looking for early changes in liver, kidney, endocrine (thyroid and diabetes) and blood cell functions, these tests can be tailored to screen for overall health and breed-specific problems. This test can be run with heartworm testing or at your pet’s annual exam.
Senior screens are more in-depth screens which are tailored to the individual pet and owner. These may include blood testing, urine testing, blood pressure and eye testing. Given that our pets age rapidly, screening is aimed at slowing down degenerative processes and keeping our seniors comfortable for as long as possible.
